M. Wladimiroff

International lawyer, emeritus professor of international criminal law

Michail Wladimiroff (1945) read law at Leiden University, was called to the Bar of the Netherlands in 1972 and retired in 2015. He is professor emeritus of Economic Criminal Law at Utrecht University and has been a prominent advocate for 43 years. He chaired and participated in various (inter)national professional and academic organisations and committees. As specialist in matters of corporate criminal law, with a focus on criminal responsibility of management, he was involved in most high-profile fraud cases in the Netherlands of the past decades. Besides this expertise, he had an excellent reputation as lawyer in international humanitarian law cases. He was defence counsel in the Tadić case before the ICTY and the Musema case before the ICTR. He was appointed amicus curiae in the Milošević case before the ICTY, represented the Republic of Liberia before the ICJ concerning the international arrest warrant of Charles Taylor issued by the Special Court for Sierra Leone and was counsel for the Hariri family before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. He is an experienced trainer of both members of the judiciary and counsel for the prosecution or the defence in the Netherlands and abroad.

R.A. van der Pol

Judge at the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal

Ruth A. van der Pol (1960) read law at Leiden University and was called to the bar in 1987 (Pels Rijcken en Droogleever Fortuijn). A first instance court judge nomination since 1996 (District Court Haarlem respectively Arnhem) was followed by a nomination as a court of appeal judge at the court of appeal Arnhem in  2006. He became a vice-president at the Arnhem District Court in 2010, and was for several years involved in professional training of young candidate judges and worked as a judge in summary proceedings (‘kort geding’), after which he returned to the Arnhem court of appeal (now the court of appeal Arnhem-Leeuwarden). He is a specialist in civil and commercial law and civil litigation and wrote in the course of years numerous publications on civil law, civil procedure law, human rights law as well as publications related to comparative aspects of Russian law, both in The Netherlands and in Russia. In his capacity as a judge he is for many years involved in trainings and lectures for Russian advocates, scholars and students. He speaks and reads Russian. Ruth van der Pol is trainer at the Dutch school for the Judiciary (SSR) and member of the disciplinary court for the healthcare, appeal instance (Centraal Tuchtcollege voor de Gezondheidszorg).
